COLLECTOR INFORMATION:
Alternate container(s): whole blood in EDTA 
Collection Volume: 2 mL, 0.5 minimum (Vitreous/ aqueous fluid no minimum)  
Special instructions: Acceptable specimen types: Vitreous/ aqueous fluid, amniotic, pleural, pericardia , CSF, BAL, Trach aspirate, bronch wash, trach wash.
 LABORATORY USE ONLY:
Test volume: 2.0 mL, (0.5 minimum) No minimum for Vitreous/ aqueous fluid
 
Processing instructions: MUST BE IN A STERILE CONTAINER
Ship same day to Viracor.
Assay MUST be received WITHIN 96 HOURS OF SPECIMEN COLLECTION.
Trach aspirate, bronch wash >96 hours old = freeze 
Vitreous/ aqueous fluid, amniotic, pleural, pericardial, CSF, BAL = freeze immediately
On-campus collections: Tube to 99 or deliver to University Extension Hospital Room EH318     
Shipping/Handling Instructions:    Ship to Viracor: Refer to Viracor website for specific storage requirements if sample is rec'd after 5pm
Specimens received after 96 hours are NOT acceptable for testing if not frozen
 
Friday shipments must be labeled for Saturday delivery. 
All specimens must be labeled with patient's name, collection date and time. 
A Viracor Eurofins test requisition form must accompany each specimen. 
 
Off-campus collections: 
Specimen to be stored/transported frozen, DO NOT FREEZE WHOLE BLOOD
Specimens received after 96 hours are NOT acceptable for testing if not frozen
 
Causes for Rejection
Whole blood frozen, specimens received in trap containers, formalin Fixed, paraffin embedded tissue
Specimen will be rejected if greater than 96 hours old if not frozen
