Interpretive Data:

  • The oligonucleotide primers and probes for detection of SARS-CoV-2 were selected from regions of the virus nucleocapsid (N2) and envelope (E) genes. RNA is isolated and purified from respiratory specimens and reverse transcribed to cDNA and subsequently amplified and detected by real-time PCR.
  • This test was developed and its appropriate performance characteristics determined by Cepheid. The assay is approved for diagnostic use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration under an Emergency Use Authorization.
  • The Microbiology Laboratory of the Medical University of South Carolina is certified under the Clinical Laboratory Imporovement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA-88) as qualified to perform high-complexity clinical laboratory testing.
