Collection

• Container: ThinPrep PreservCyt solution vial 
• Collection Device: Dacron Swab or polyester synthetic fiber swab, or cytobrush
• Collection Instructions: Insert the collection device beyond the pectinate line approximately 5-6 cm above the anal verge. Rotate the swab continuously as it is withdrawn. Quickly rinse the swab or brush into the PreservCyt solution vial by vigrorously swirling the swab or brush 10 times while pushing against the vial wall to suspend the cells into solution. Discared the collection device and secure the cap to the specimen vial so that the torque line on the cap passes the torque line on the vial. Label the vial with two patient identifiers.
• Storage: Maintain at room temperature in PreservCyt Solution for up to 30 days.
• Transport: Send to Cytology Lab EH314; after-hours, send to Main Lab EH318
