Thromboelastogram

Collection:

A-Line Draw:

1. Draw 10cc waste prior to drawing ROTEM sample from A-Line

2. Draw sample for testing into separate syringe according to blood tube size.

3. Collect Sodium Citrate Light blue tube to indicated line.

4. Gently invert blue top tube 5 times to prevent pre-clotting

5. Label specimen with a patient label indicating time of draw

6. For Main Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Rutledge and Hollings patients, send specimen via tube #77 Transfusion   Services, Ext. 2-2671. For ART Hospital and ART clinics, send specimen via 6 inch tube #55 ART OR Lab, Ext. 6-5656.

Line Draw:

1. Discontinue heparin drip 5 minutes prior to line draw

2. Draw sample for testing into separate syringe according to blood tube size.

3. Collect Sodium Citrate Light blue tube to indicated line.

4. Gently invert blue top tube 5 times to prevent pre-clotting

5. Label specimen with a patient label indicating time of draw

6. For Main Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Rutledge and Hollings patients, send specimen via tube #77 Transfusion   Services, Ext. 2-2671. For ART Hospital and ART clinics, send specimen via 6 inch tube #55 ART OR Lab, Ext. 6-5656.

Peripheral Venipuncture Draw:

1. Use a 21gauge needle or larger when collecting by venipuncture

2. Draw 3.5 ml waste tube

3. Collect Sodium Citrate Light blue tube to indicated line.

4. Gently invert blue top tube 5 times to prevent pre-clotting

5. Label specimen with a patient label indicating time of draw

6. For Main Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Rutledge and Hollings patients, send specimen via tube #77 Transfusion   Services, Ext. 2-2671. For ART Hospital and ART clinics, send specimen via 6 inch tube #55 ART OR Lab, Ext. 6-5656.
