Test Code LAB3011 BLOOD SMEAR SLIDE, PATHOLOGY INTERPRETATION

Important Note

This is a blood smear made from an EDTA anticoagulated sample and is sent for pathologist consultation. 

Note: UMC Hematology lab can review slide for RBC Morphology including RBC Fragments (schistocytes).

 

Collection:

Specimen: Blood 

Container: Lavender Top Tube. 

Specimen Volume: Minimum 2 mL (tube)

 

Pediatric Collection:

One Lavender microtainer filled to 500 uL (Minimum 250 uL).

Stability:

Refrigerated: 48 hours (preferred)

 Room Temperature: 24 hours 

Turnaround Time (TAT):

Dependent on Scope Room. Call Lab Services if stat review is required. 

Test Availability:

Monday - Friday

Consult on-call pathology resident for stat request.
