Interpretive Data:
| Hepatitis B Surface Antibody | |
|---|---|
| A negative value indicates the anti-HBs level is below 8 mIU/mL and the patient is considered not to have protective immunity to HBV infection. A positive test indicates the patient has anti-HBs equal to or greater than 12 mIU/mL. This cutoff is the accepted level for protective immunity to hepatitis B as defined by the World Health Organization level and in accordance with CDC guidelines. Interpretation information is based on the Abbott product literature. Results by other assay methods cannot be used interchangeably with the Abbott assay values. | |
| Result | Interpretation |
| Nonreactive | Individual is considered not immune to HBV infection. |
| Grayzone | The immune status of the individual should be further assessed by considering other factors, such as clinical status, follow-up testing, associated risk factors, and the use of additional diagnostic information. |
| Reactive | Individual is considered immune to HBV infection. |
| Hepatitis B Core Total Antibody | |
|---|---|
| The anti-HBc Total assay detects both IgM and IgG anti-HBc responses. Interpretation information is based on the Abbott product literature. Results by other assay methods cannot be used interchangeably with the Abbott assay values. | |
| Result | Interpretation |
| Nonreactive | Anti-HBc antibodies not detected. It is possible that the individual is not infected with HBV. |
| Reactive | Anti-HBc antibodies were detected in the sample which suggests either on-going or previous HBV infection. |
| Hepatitis B Surface Antigen Screen | |
|---|---|
|
Interpretation information is based on the Abbott product literature. Results by other assay methods cannot be used interchangeably with the Abbott assay values. |
|
| Result | Interpretation |
| Nonreactive | Specimen considered negative for HBsAg. |
| Reactive | Specimen considered repeatedly reactive; will be confirmed using the ALINITY HBsAg Qualitative Confirmatory assay. |
| Hepatitis C Virus Antibody Screen | |
|---|---|
|
Interpretation information is based on the Abbott product literature. Results by other assay methods cannot be used interchangeably with the Abbott assay values. |
|
| Result | Interpretation |
| Nonreactive | Antibodies to HCV not detected; does not exclude the possibility of exposure to HCV. |
| Equivocal | Antibodies to HCV may or may not be present; a reflexive HCV RNA test will be performed on the specimen to determine infection status (current or resolved). |
| Reactive | Presumptive evidence of antibodies to HCV; a reflexive HCV RNA test will be performed on the specimen to determine infection status (current or resolved). |
