Quantitative measurement of plasma acylcarnitines via tandem mass spectrometry for the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with fatty acid oxidation disorders and organic acidurias.
Collection:
Approximately 3 mL whole blood collected in sodium heparin tube; or blood can be centrifuged and a minimum of 500 uL plasma removed and sent for analysis
Transport & Storage:
Whole blood should be shipped at ambient temperature.
Plasma should be frozen after collection and shipped frozen, preferably on dry ice.
