Includes:

Quantitative measurement of total and free carnitine in plasma via tandem mass spectrometry to monitor a patient's carnitine status.

Collection:

Approximately 3 mL whole blood collected in sodium heparin tube; or blood can be centrifuged and a minimum of 500 uL plasma removed and sent for analysis

Transport & Storage:

Whole blood should be shipped at ambient temperature.

Plasma should be frozen after collection and shipped frozen, preferably on dry ice.
