Specimen must be in lab before 9:00am, Monday, Wednesday and Friday to be performed same day.

Collection:

Specimen: Blood

Container:  One White EDTA PPT Tube (preferred) . One 4 ml Dark Lavender ( 3 ml minimum) is also acceptable for pediatric collection or PPT unavailability. If a Dark Lavender tube is collected,  a separate tube is required if multiple tests are ordered. Microtainers are unacceptable.

Volume: 4 ml; Minimum 3 ml

Storage Instructions:

Send specimen to Lab immediately after collection. Centrifuge PPT tube within 6 hours and refrigerate. If lavender tube is collected, centrifuge and pouroff plasma within 6 hours and ship on a cold pack by overnight delivery.  For longer storage >72 hours, freeze plasma and ship frozen on dry ice.

Reported same day as performed.

Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  Specimen must be in lab before 9:00am to be performed same day. Observed holidays may adjust testing schedule.

Interpretive Data:

The CMVDNA assay methodology is polymerase chain reaction (PCR) used to quantitate cytomegalovirus (CMV) from human specimen. The CMV assay targets 2 short sequences within the UL34 and UL80.5 genes of the CMV genome. The linear range of this assay is between 30 and 100,000,000 IU/mL.
