Test Code LAB8092 Syphilis Total IgG and IgM with Reflex to RPR

Important Note

This is the preferred assay for the initial screening test for syphilis. If Syphilis Total IgG and IgM is positive or equivocal, an RPR will be performed at an additional charge. If the RPR is negative, a Treponemal pallidum agglutination may be performed at an additional charge.

To diagnose or monitor the treatment of congenital syphilis in infants up to 6 months of age, order LAB494 RPR (Rapid Plasma Reagin).

Storage Instructions:

Serum may be stored for up to 7 days at 2-8C. For longer storage, serum must be frozen at -20 or colder.

Interpretive Data:

Range Interpretation  
< 0.8 AI Nonreactive A nonreactive result does not exclude the possibility of exposure to or infection with T. pallidum.  Antibodies may be at low or undectable levels in incubating or early primary disease and in some clinical conditions. 
0.9 - 1.0 AI Equivocal Nontreponemal and/or treponemal testing will be ordered to establish the presence or absence of disease.
