Collection:

Specimen: Urine, Random

Container: BD Urinalysis Preservative tube (Yellow/Red Tiger top) or 10 mL Yellow Top Plastic Urine No Additive Tube BD# 364979.  Tubes containing a clot activator are unacceptable.

Volume:
8 ml in BD Urinalysis Preservative tube (Yellow/Red Tiger top).  Note: Preservative tubes must be filled to the indicated line.   If unable to collect 8ml,  collect at least 1.5ml in a Yellow Top Plastic Urine No Additive Tube BD# 364979

Note

  • First morning specimen is recommended.
  • Urine cups will not be accepted from inpatient locations.

 

Stability:

Unpreserved (sterile container):

  • Room Temperature: 30 minutes
  • Refrigerated: 24 hours
  • Frozen: Unacceptable

UA Preservative Tube (Tiger Top):

  • Room Temperature: 8 hours
  • Refrigerated: 24 hours
  • Frozen: Unaccetpable

Any specimen over 24 hours old will not be accepted.

Turn Around Time (TAT):
