Container: Lavender Top Tube. If requested with a Prothrombin Gene Mutation, tube may be shared.  A separate tube is required if other tests besides Prothrombin Gene Mutation are ordered to be collected in a Lavender tube.  A Blue Top Tube Sodium Citrate anticoagulant whole blood is also acceptable.

 

Volume: 2.5 mL; Minimum 1 mL

Storage Instructions:

Send specimen to Lab within 2 hours of collection. For longer storage, refrigerate.

Results reported in 7 days

Test Availability:

Performed twice a week, days vary. Observed holidays may adjust testing schedule.

An interpretive report will be generated. The assay is a real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The PCR primers target a 222bp fragment of the Factor V gene.
