Container: One White EDTA PPT Tube (preferred) . One 4 ml Dark Lavender ( 3 ml minimum) is also acceptable for pediatric collection or PPT unavailability. If a Dark Lavender tube is collected,  a separate tube is required if multiple tests are ordered. Microtainers are unacceptable.

Volume: 4 mL; Minimum 3 mL

Handling

Send specimen to Lab immediately after collection. Centrifuge PPT tube within 6 hours and refrigerate. If lavender tube is collected, centrifuge and pouroff plasma within 6 hours and ship on a cold pack by overnight delivery.  For longer storage >72 hours, freeze plasma and ship frozen on dry ice.

Results reported within 7 days.

Interpretive Data:

The EBV DNA assay methodology is polymerase chain reaction (PCR) used to quantitate Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) from human specimen. The EBV assay targets 2 sequences within the GP350 and EBNA1 genes of the EBV genome. The linear range of this assay is between 50 and 200,000,000 IU/mL.
