Specimen: Blood

Container: Green Lithium Heparin with gel, Serum Separator or Plain Red tube.

Volume: 5 mL; Minimum 1 mL

 

Pediatric Collection:

One Green, Gold or Red microtainer filled to 600 uL.

Stability:

Once serum/plasma is separated from cells:

 

Ambient: 8 Hours

Refrigerated (preferred): 1 Week

Frozen: 2 Weeks

Turn Around Time (TAT):

STAT: 1 HOUR

Routine: 4 HOURS

Test Availability:

24 hours a day / 7 days a week

Interpretive Data:

NEGATIVE: TCA < 300 ng/mL

POSITIVE: TCA > 300 ng/mL

 

A false positive TCA result may occur if the six compounds listed below present in amounts indicated in parentheses: chlorpromazine (200 ng/mL), cyclobenzaprine (200 ng/mL);  thioridazine (1.5 mcg/mL); diphenhydramine (12 mcg/mL); orphenadrine citrate (6 mcg/mL); cyproheptadine (0.42 mcg/mL). Other substance and or factors not listed may interfere with the test and cause false results.
