Test Code LAB2048 Platelet Aggregation

Important Note

Consultation with the lab is required prior to scheduling at 792-8634.  A complete medication list must be obtained and a patient medical history is helpful.  Specimen is rejected if platelet count is <100 K/cumm or if patient has been on drugs during the past ten days that inhibit platelet aggregation.

Collection:

Specimen: Blood

Container: See Notes above before collection. Blue Top Tubes with 3.2% (0.109 M) buffered Sodium Citrate AND one 4ml Lavender Tube

Volume: 20 mls of whole blood (Six 3.5 ml tubes or nine 2.0 ml tubes) in Sodium Citrate Blue AND One 4 ml Lavender tube.

 

Notes:

  • Samples not filled properly will be rejected (over or under filled).
  • If the patient's hematocrit is >55%, call Lab Client Services at 792-0707 to obtain an anticoagulant adjusted tube.

Storage Instructions:

Do not store. Test must be performed within 3 hours of collection. Specimen must be kept Room Temperature.

Turnaround Time (TAT):

Results reported in 48 hours

Test Availability:

Test must be scheduled with Special Hematology at 792-8634. No testing is performed on weekends.
