MIXINGSTDY

Includes:

APTT, PT, TT and Mixing Study on patient plasma.

  • Immediate for PT on 1:1 mixture of patient and normal pooled plasma.
  • Immediate and 1 hour incubation for APTT on 1:1 mixture of patient and normal pooled plasma.

NOTE: PT 1:1 mix will not be performed if patient's PT is within 1 second of reference range. PTT 1:1 mix will not be performed if patient's APTT is within 2 seconds of reference range.

Collection:

Specimen: Blood 

Container: Blue Top Tube with 3.2% (0.109 M) buffered Sodium Citrate anticoagulant only

Specimen Volume: 3.5 mL Must be filled to arrow (Greiner tube Black Disk) or line (BD)

Pediatric Collection: 2.0 mL Must be filled to arrow (Greiner tube White Disk) or line (BD)

Notes: 

Stability:

Room Temperature: 4 hours Whole Blood

Refrigerated: 4 hours Plasma

Frozen at or below -20°C: 2 weeks 

Note: Frozen samples must be platelet poor plasma aliquoted from primary tube. Label as Na Citrate or blue top plasma.

Mixing Study

 

Corrected – Generally indicates correction of a prolonged PT/PTT suggesting factor deficiency.

Uncorrected (No correct) – Generally indicates no correction of a prolonged PT/PTT suggesting an inhibitor is present.

 

Interpretation by pathologist when needed.
