Test Code LAB2029 Lactic Acid, Fluid (Other than spinal fluid)

Collection:

Specimen: Fluid (specify fluid type on lab request)

Container: Plain Tube on ice

Volume: Minimum 1 mL

Stability:

Place on ice immediately and send specimen to Lab within 20 minutes of collection. If specimen cannot be delivered to lab within 20 minutes of collection, centrifuge, pour off supernatant and refrigerate or freeze for transportation to the lab.  Once supernatant is separated from cells:

 

Refrigerated (preferred): 3 Days

Frozen: 3 Days

Turn Around Time (TAT):

Routine / STAT:  1 hour

Test Availability:

24 hours a day / 7 days a week

Interpretation by physician
