Collection:
Specimen: Blood
Container: Gray or Lavender Top tube. Blood tube should be stoppered tightly to prevent loss of volatiles.
Volume: 7 mL; Minimum 3 mL
Storage Instructions:
Send specimen to Lab after collection or refrigerate whole blood until transport. Blood tube should be stoppered tightly to prevent loss of volatiles. DO NOT CENTRIFUGE SPECIMEN.
Test Availability:
Testing is performed Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 1pm. Results for specimens received in lab by 1pm Monday – Friday will be available same day. If same day results are required on specimens received after 1pm Monday – Friday, weekends or holidays, the ordering physician/clinician must page the Pathology and Lab Medicine resident on call at 792-2123.
