Notes:

A concurrent order for a serum protein Electrophoresis is required.

Collection:

Specimen: Blood

Container: Serum Separator Tube

Volume: 5 mL; Minimum 3 mL

Pediatric Collection:

Two Gold or Red microtainers filled to 600 uL.

Storage Instructions:

Serum should be separated from red cells when stored or shipped. Specimens that cannot be tested immediately can be refrigerated up to 7 days.  Do not freeze specimen.

Turnaround Time (TAT):

Results generally reported within two days after test is set up.

The presence of monoclonal IgE, monoclonal IgD or nonsecretory myelomas cannot be identified by this method. If clinically indicated, the ordering physician may request referral testing.
