Collection:

Specimen: Blood

Container: Plain Red Top Tube only. Serum separator tubes are unacceptable.

Volume: 7 mL; Minimum 5 mL

Storage Instructions:

Spin sample and separate serum from red cells within 2 hours of collection.  

Stability of serum:  refrigerated or frozen - 5 days

Turnaround Time (TAT):

Routine – same day as test is set up. STAT – 2 hours

Test Availability:

Testing is performed Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 1pm; Saturday-Sunday / Holidays 8:00am-10:30am.  Results for specimens received in lab by 1pm Monday – Friday or 10:30am Saturday-Sunday / Holidays will be available same day.    If same day results are required on specimens received after 1pm Monday – Friday, after 10:30am Saturday-Sunday / Holidays, the ordering physician/clinician must page the Pathology and Lab Medicine resident on call at 792-2123.

Assay:

2 mL serum

Minimum amount of serum needed for analysis = 1.0 mL (no repeats)
